My iPod won’t turn on unless plugged into a computer. Help!?

I have a 2nd generation iPod nano that I bought a while ago, but never opened until yesterday. I plugged it into the computer and iTunes popped up automatically. I loaded all the songs I wanted onto the iPod and safely ejected it from the computer. A few minutes later, I went to listen to the iPod, and found that it would not turn on. Thinking that the battery needed to be charged, I plugged it back into the computer and left it there for a few hours. Still, it would not turn on. While plugged into the computer, the iPod worked great, and I could access anything I wanted on it. The second, I unplugged it, the screen went black and I couldn't get it back on. Any suggestions as to how I could fix this problem?

ANSWER: Your problem is most likely the battery. It will not hold a charge. If your device is still under warranty then take it in to a ms store or call apple support and ask them for instructions ok how to ship your iPod to them for service.
