I got a computer from school, and the hard drive was crashed. Is there a way that I can install another hard drive to it without having the installation disks? And is there a way to make a crashed drive work?

The crashed drive may just need a reformat but you will still need an operating system disk.

Yes, you would need to format the crashed drive, (WHICH MEANS ERASING EVERYTHING ON IT) but it will repair any SOFTWARE issue that caused the hard drive to crash.
If the Hard drive that crashed is bad, then you should throw it away, you can check to see if its bad by FIRST formatting it, and then running a scandisk check on it.

Do you have any OS cds or disks?
As for the new hard drive, yes you could plug it in, in place of the old one, but you will need an OS CD to install Windows, Macintosh, Linux or whatever you use or like to use on it…

Hi there
If the drive has crashed, there won’t be anything you can do to reverse that.
You will need installation disks after a new hard drive has been installed. The only way is, if you can get a hard drive from someone that already has windows installed on it.
The old drive will need to be disconnected from the machine by opening up the case of your computer, ensuring it is switched off and doesn’t have power going to it. Then locate the hard drive, detach the cables connecting it. There should be two cables. A power connection and a data connection. Once These have been disconnected, remove the hard drive from the chassis of your computer case but undoing and removing the screws hold it in place. The drive should then slide out.
Install a new drive by following the instructions above in reverse, i.e slide the drive into the chassis where the last one came from, make the relevant connections and secure the screws. Replace your computer cover, connect your computer to power and switch it on. If you have installed a drive with windows on it, windows should load. The drive’s data connection has two thin black connection on it. Ensure that you connect the new drive to the same connection you found the last one. The other connection could already have a device connected to it, i.e a CD ROM or DVD Drive, in which case there will only be one connection to plug your drive into. The cable I am talking about is a grey cable that looks like a ribbon.
Hope this helps.

Before doing any work inside your computer, discharge yourself of static by touching the outside casing of your computer as static could damage your computer components.
Hope this helps.
