My hard drive crashed, so I ordered a new one.. my laptop came with vista on it, but I know that when I install the new hard drive, it will be blank.. and I don’t really feel like paying for the windows vista CD-ROM.. but my husband has the Windows XP CD-ROM, can I install that on to my computer with the new hard drive even if my lap top came with vista on my old hard drive?

You can install XP using the cd from your other computer.
Microsoft generally accept that installing a single license on 1 PC and 1 Laptop (in the same household) is within the licence conditions.
You may encounter problems with drivers for your laptop hardware the best source for these is download them from the manufacturer’s web site. (The ones that came with the machine may be specifically for Vista.)

Of course you can. Only don’t tell Microsoft you have xp on two computers but only bought one license. They won’t like that
