My Hd Crashed And I Can’t Find Original Disks For Laptop, Can I Use Different Disks?

I had a Gateway laptop that was 2 years old and the hard drive crashed. I lost the disks that came with the computer, After I install the new hard drive can I use the disks that came with my Dell laptop to install that operating system, etc onto the Gateway? Thank you!!!

Yes and no you can install the OS but all the drivers you need will not be on that cd so that will force you to find every driver sound,video card,ethernet /modem/wifi whatever yo use.Try calling gateway to see if you can buy a recovery disk

I’m pretty sure there exists a fix to fool the BIOS of the Laptop in to ‘thinking’ it is a Dell. Then you should be able to use your Dell disk, but you may still end up with the dreaded ‘Blue Screen of Death’ due to drivers being installed that do not match the actual hardware.
Also, If you are using 2 Laptops, you will need 2 different Genuine Numbers for the Operating Systems.

Yes you can, i might not work quite right but I is possible what i would suggest is install just the windows os, not the actual dell driver disk, you can go to gateway.com to download the drives, also, running automatic update can solve alot of little glitches.
